At Interfleet Technology (now AtkinsRealis) Andy Sykes worked on the original service specification and design vision to support rolling stock procurement for SAR North-South railway. The design consisted three classes across day and night trainsets, a restaurant car, and specific toilet facilities.
Andy developed the overall train layout, worked on interior design details, prepared 3D data for visualisation and created the final design documentation.
The interiors required special consideration to the unique operating environment of the trains, running through the heat and sand of the desert through day and night.
Throughout the rolling stock procurement process, Andy worked with SAR to review designs as the contract was awarded to CAF and the trains developed in production.
