As Senior Designer at dgdesign, Andy Sykes was responsible for a variety of projects for South Western Railway.
Prior to Andy joining dgdesign, the business had successfully supported FirstGroup's franchise bid. Andy supported FirstGroup - with their brand designer Forpeople - to develop the SWR livery and interior design. Andy developed the initial Forpeople livery concept around railway technical and legal requirements, producing the initial metallic striped livery used to launch the brand, and a subsequent solid paint scheme.
On the interiors, Andy developed carpet and seat fabric designs, seat detail design and interior colour schemes around the brand vision and values.
Andy worked on refurbishment schemes for Classes 158/159, 442, 444, 450 and 458, as well as the Island Line.
SWR also ordered new AVENTRA units from Alstom/Bombardier which Andy was involved in supporting with Schedule of Finishes and visualisations.
In addition to the physical design, Andy worked with the SWR operations team to develop restyled route maps to enable service changes to be managed effectively.
Andy also developed interior and exterior signage and labelling for the fleets.
